How can I always be motivated?

What is wrong with me? Why can’t I lose weight, stay motivated, and eat healthily?

I am useless.

Don’t you hate it if someone says, “Just have a positive mindset” or “keep a gratitude journal, and you will be much happier? “

It just makes me feel worse about myself if people say you are such a fortunate privileged human, look what you have. You have so much to be grateful for. But sometimes, during my cycle, I just feel so depressed.

Well, they (scientists) tell us humans are always motivated “WTF?”.

I have no motivation at certain times of the month and experience a lot of resistance. How can I always be motivated? I figured out that my motivation had changed.

Sometimes we are motivated to lose weight, smash our training session, and hit that high-intensity session. Sometimes you are motivated to be comfortable and lie on the couch, chilling and eating comfort foods. If you go against what yourself is motivated to do, you experience resistance.

If you are familiar with your cycle, you will find that you can't stop eating at the end of your cycle (luteal phase). Your day is consumed by thinking of that chocolate, and you start feeling uncomfortable if you don’t give in to your desires. It's your body's way of telling you what it wants to do. Your body needs more carbs because the increase in progesterone it makes the cells more insulin resistant; it is not the time to fast or start a low-carb diet. I guarantee you will fail miserably, but you can use resources or hacks to support you through these uncomfortable times. These resources and hacks will help you, so you do not derail the success you have already reached.

Your progesterone (calming hormone) is dominant in the luteal phase, and you feel like relaxing more. Near ovulation, your estrogen is high; it feels like you can conquer a mountain and run marathons. Embrace and enjoy that phase of your cycle. You can make significant gains because sometimes you are just motivated to eat and chill. Start working with your body, not against it.

I am not saying if you feel like eating a whole cake, have it and eat it, but understand why your body wants it and why you can’t eat the entire time healthily. Knowledge is power; know where you are in your cycle, what resources you can use to support yourself when you crave something, and how to reduce the damage. Do not beat yourself up. It is normal and happens to all of us, and nobody is perfect, but it's how you use your resources.

I felt much better when I discovered this quote from Britt Frank, the author of ‘The Science of Stuck', “You can find happiness in the freedom to own your own experience (angry, depressed, grateful, sad, happy, excited, etc.) without other people forcing their will upon us.”

Yes, other people want to see you happy, but forcing their desire upon us to be happy all the time, is not helping our case to find happiness. Happiness is not an end goal. It's a process. It comes and goes. It is ok not to be okay or not always be on cloud 9, or not always nailing your diet, or sticking to your training program. Life is messy, and you will have ups and downs, and that's the whole point of experiencing life in its glory. Those influencers who always look so perfect and happy. They miss the whole point of life, and they miss out on experiencing life in its full glory and messiness.

I don't do gratitude journals; I write realistic journals. If you only write the positive things, you deny pain. If you only think about the negative, you deny the existence of resources and growth.

I would love to hear from you guys and your experiences because we are all so different, and life is so rich with you all in it.
